CNC Turning Services
CNC turning from a family-owned machine shop in Nappanee, IN. Cylindrical and rotational parts, tight tolerances
If your part is round, cylindrical, or rotational — CNC turning is how it gets made right. Northern Indiana Axle runs precision CNC turning for manufacturers throughout Northern Indiana, holding tight tolerances on shafts, bushings, pins, flanges, and custom rotational components. Same family-owned shop. Same 2-week lead time. Same commitment to getting it right the first time.
Is Your Part a Turning Job? Here's How to Tell
What CNC Turning Actually Does
CNC turning works differently than milling. Instead of moving a cutting tool across a stationary workpiece, the part rotates at high speed while a stationary cutting tool removes material. That makes it the right process for any part that is fundamentally cylindrical or rotational in shape.
If your part has features like:
- Straight or tapered outside diameters
- Bored or reamed interior diameters
- Threads — internal or external
- Grooves, undercuts, and chamfers
- Facing operations on the end of a part
- Knurled or contoured surfaces on a rotational axis
— then CNC turning is likely your process, not milling.
When a part needs both turning and milling features — say, a shaft with a cross-drilled hole or a flat — we can handle that too. Talk to us about your part and we'll tell you what makes sense.
Parts We Turn Every Day
CNC Turned Parts We Produce
Our turning capability serves a broad range of Northern Indiana manufacturers.
Common turned parts we produce include:
- Shafts and spindles for mechanical and power transmission applications
- Bushings and sleeves for RV, agricultural, and industrial equipment
- Pins and dowels to tight diameter tolerances
- Threaded components — standard and custom thread forms
- Flanges and hubs for trailer, hitch, and heavy equipment applications
- Axle components — it's in our name for a reason
- Custom rotational parts across any industry or application
If your part isn't on this list, send us the file. If it can be turned, we can run it.
Materials We Turn
We turn a full range of metals including:
Material selection affects machinability, cycle time, and tool wear — all of which affect your per-part cost. If you're early in your design process and want input on material choice before committing, we're happy to have that conversation.
Tight Tolerances, Checked Before They Ship
Tolerances and Quality
CNC turning is a precision process, and we treat it that way. Diameter tolerances, surface finish, concentricity, and thread fit all matter — especially when your turned part is mating with another component downstream in your assembly.
We hold tight tolerances on turned parts and inspect before they ship. If something isn't right, we catch it here — not at your receiving dock.
Our quality management system is registered to ISO 9001:2015 through EAGLE Registrations Inc., meaning our processes are documented, consistent, and built around delivering parts that meet spec every time.
What You Can Count On
2-Week Lead Time
Standard across all turning work. Your production schedule matters, and we don't treat lead times as suggestions.
No Outsourcing
Every turned part is machined in our 60,000-square-foot Nappanee facility by our own machinists. No subcontracting, no surprises.
Dfm Feedback When It Matters
If we review your STEP or DXF file and see a feature that's going to cause problems — a thread spec that's non-standard, a tolerance tighter than the application needs, a wall thickness that won't hold — we call you before we cut. Not after.
Straight Quotes, Real People
We're a family-owned shop that's been running since 1994. Four of Ken Mullet's children work alongside him on the floor and in the business. When you call, you get a person. When we quote you, it's a real number.
Serving Northern Indiana Manufacturers
We turn parts for manufacturers throughout the region — Elkhart, Goshen, South Bend, Mishawaka, Fort Wayne, Warsaw, Columbia City, and surrounding communities. If you've been sourcing turned parts from out of state or offshore and dealing with long lead times and quality headaches, we're worth a call.
Need CNC Turned Parts Quoted?
Send us your STEP or DXF file and tell us what you're working with — material, quantity, tolerance requirements. We'll get back to you with a straight answer.
